Centre welcomes antiques guru
Antiques expert Alan Carter and his photographer Leon O'Neil spent the day at Ipswich Antique Centre recently to photograph items for his latest publication, Guide to Antiques and Collectables in Australia.
Mr Carter is the pre-eminent authority on antiques in Australia, having published and edited mroe than 45 books on antiques and collectables.
He has been in the antiques industry in both England and Australia for 50 years as a dealer, publisher, TV presenter, author, speaker and event organiser.
The ABC TV program Treasure Hunt made him a familiar face, and he is also the regular antiques expert for several ABC radio programs.
Ipswich Antique Centre co-owner John Mildwaters said Mr Carter was blown away by the range and quality of items presented for sale, as well as the beautifully restored heritage-listed building at 86 East St which houses the centre.
"He was very impressed by the presentation of stock and layout of the centre which was reflected by the 150-plus images selected on the day," Mr Mildwaters said.
"About 20 to 30 are still to be photographed. They went through the centre with a fine-toothed comb.
"Alan did comment on our having an excellent and unusual range of Australian pottery."
